This is a view of Pingvellir (thing-vellir) its the site of the Icelandic national cemetery as well as where guide books would have you believe democracy was invented which is a lie. Its a site where the viking chieftains met to discuss the important political issues of the day as well as to make laws and drink beer, there wasn't anything democratic about the process.
The ridge in the background is the beginning of the European continental plate, in the opposite direction of the picture is a similar ridge that is the North American plate, this is one of the very few places in the world where you can see Continental drift with your own eyes. These two plates are drifting apart and Iceland is getting bigger at the rate of 2cm/year.

You are both a skeptic and a cynic. I declare you a skeynic.
